Joe’s Story
Joe Gietl is a writer, director, musician, and producer from Upstate New York. He has directed several short films that have played on the festival circuit, written numerous screenplays, and produced both narrative and commercial work. Joe is inspired by a wide variety of films and music which has influenced his unique taste and style as an artist. He has learned that what is most personal is often what is most universal. As such, Joe has developed his style to go towards the fun and the honest emotion in his work.
He began writing after getting sober in 2010, and through self-reflection and trial-and-error honed his craft touching on difficult topics and exploring the human condition through the lens of entertaining genre filmmaking and songwriting. Some of the important landmarks in his career include The Fledgling, a vampire epic that debuted at Sitges film fest in 2023, and his directorial feature film debut A Shadow That Broke the Light (2025). It has continued to manifest with his upcoming loosely connected horror comedy film series, The Dead Trilogy as well as two brand new television pilots, titled Karma Police and Grief.
He has taken this same approach to his songwriting to create work that is true to himself and with the unique ability to turn serious subjects into bouncy, up-tempo hip-hop tracks. In 2025 he released his first two full length albums, From the Abyss and Cry for Health.
